Additional Information to Laboratory Courses
The laboratory courses in Biological Chemistry are aimed at training qualifying ETH Zurich (and external page University of Zurich) students in the modern biological disciplines, such as microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, enzymology, protein science, and gene technology. Simultaneously, they represent genuine research projects, which are newly designed each year.
The underlying technology of these courses is Directed Molecular Evolution, a strategy we use in all of the research projects in our laboratory. The nature of this technology renders it particularly suitable for the laboratory classes offered here.
Both events are part of the ETH Fall Semester Curriculum:
- For D-CHAB students from the curriculum MSc Chemistry
- Advanced laboratory course, organized like an internship but coupled to BCP B
- Whether or not it will take place depends on the status and requirements of the BCP B project
- Candidates must directly contact P. Kast no later than September 1st to find out about availabilities (no self-enrollment!)
- Laboratory block course in 3rd year of the D-CHAB curriculum "BSc Biochemistry - Chemical Biology" and the D-BIOL curriculum "BSc Biology"
- Int. Nat. students from D-CHAB can only be considered if they directly contact P. Kast at least 6 months ahead of the course
- The course involves experiments that require long work days (no kidding!) with a tight schedule
- The Download BCP B flyer (PDF, 279 KB) gives an outline of the tentative contents and program for the block course
- Interested BSc Biochemistry - Chemical Biology applicants must inquire with the D-CHAB study administration for the criteria and procedures to sign up
- Interested BSc Biology students must follow the enrolment instructions for the UZH/ETH centralized external page reservation system for block courses offered in the 5th semester (see the corresponding D-BIOL admission criteria and details about the third year of study)
- The maximum number of participants for this laboratory class is 12; any surplus applicants may contact P. Kast directly to have their names added to a waiting list
