Stocker, C., Khatanbaatar, T., Bressan, L., Würth-Roderer, K., Cordara, G., Krengel, U., Kast, P. (2023). Novel exported fusion enzymes with chorismate mutase and cyclohexadienyl dehydratase activity: Shikimate pathway enzymes teamed up in no man's land. J. Biol. Chem. paper in press.

Fusion enzymes consisting of a chorismate mutase (CM; pink and red) and a cyclohexadienyl dehydratase domain (CDT; cyan and blue) were discovered in nine β and γ-proteobacterial species. Superimposition of the CM domains for two representative proteins emphasizes the distinct domain topologies encountered. A biological role for these exported enigmatic enzymes is still elusive.
